Where Eagles Fly

Posted by anonymous on May 11, 2009 at 3:48 PM

We were up on Burnaby Mountain in British Columbia a week ago today, you know, where eagles fly. It wasn't too long before two, no three of these magnificent birds soared overhead. One of them dived swiftly down the mountainside obviously after prey. What a thrill to watch them.

My step-daughter Kelsey, had taken us up there. She had packed a picnic lunch with help from our grand-daughter Annie, and there we were, munching on sandwiches and delighting in the magnificent work of God's creation. Far below were fiords with boats moving peacefully through silent waters.

. Where ever we turned our eye there were mountains and in our immediate surrounds winding paths and flowerbeds filled with tulips and daffodils.

Later we drove to Stanley Park. it was sobering to see the damage done by the wind storm of a few years ago, but even there we saw the start of new life springing forth.

Driving on we crossed Lion Bridge Gate and headed out to Grenville Island to browse the stores where exquisite and very expensive merchandise was for sale. And then we settled at a table to eat supper. While there we heard a terrible commotion going on over the water, Seagulls screeched and dived in great agitation. The cause, one of those magnificent eagles had flown into their territory. He was out numbered and had to beat a hasty retreat!

I will share more in a day or two. Meanwhile I marvel at God's creation as I expect you do.

In love

Mary

If there is a tinge of green in this reply, it is because I long so to be in the mountains again. My heart echo's the Psalmist's when I am there or even think of being there-- Unto the hills around do I lift up my longing eyes.... So glad you could be there, but also glad to have you back.

Not the best coast of course, but the west coast is beautiful! Among God's best work!

So glad you and Al arrived home safely from your wonderful trip.
Thank you for the eagle story. It raises the thought, that even the mighty eagle with all of its power to carry prey away and to rip and tear apart, can be put to flight by a flock of seagulls. Perhps a reminder that when God's people stand together in unity and prayer, the enemy can be put to flight.
Peter.

Mary, I'm so glad you were able to experience the beauty of British Columbia while you were there. It is one of my favourite places in Canada.

Have you ever read "The Eagle Story" by Bill Gothard. Magnificent creatures. I love the West Coast and miss my annual visits to see my brother.

Yes, I had a copy of Bill Gothard's "The Eagle Story" for years. (I think the grand kids may have it now.) Beautiful pictures and great lessons.

I'll have to find a copy of Bill Gothard's book. I researched he eagle for a talk I give "As the Eagle" and it was fascinating to find out so much about that magnificant bird. There are also a lot of parallels to the Christian life. Come and hear my talk some time!
